Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Honors Yu Yu Hakusho in Clever Easter Egg https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-manga-yu-yu-hakusho-easter-egg/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 23:35:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 2d138933-5dc0-403a-a441-df146de7a749

Jujutsu Kaisen's creator has been a fairly open fan of Yoshihiro Togashi's work in the past, and Gege Akutami took this to the next level by sneaking in a rather clever Easter Egg referencing Yu Yu Hakusho's final chapter in the manga! Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami has shared their love of Yu Yu Hakusho in the past, and has even referenced in terms of influences for his own series. This has now been taken to the next level as Jujutsu Kaisen honored Yu Yu Hakusho in a whole new way with a full recreation of one of its most famous scenes.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently working its way through one of the most surprising fights of the Culling Game so far as Kenjaku is facing off against Fumihiko Takaba, who was teased to be one of the strongest fighters in the tournament overall thanks to his wacky abilities. His power allows him to make whatever humorous nonsense he wants into a reality, and this led to a wacky new chapter in which Kenjaku is steering fully into this ability with the intent of being funnier than Takaba to defeat him. Which results in a cool homage to Yu Yu Hakusho.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 Yu Yu Hakusho Easter Egg

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 sees Kenjaku and Takaba's fight devolve into chaos as they enter different situations and more comedic beats, and soon it leads to Takaba jumping in front of a car to save a cat (much like Yusuke Urameshi did to save a kid in Yu Yu Hakusho's first chapter). This is only the start of the references, however, as soon after the two of them find themselves playing in the sea and splashing water on one another. It's here that Takaba thinks to himself that it's made the Culling Game worthwhile, and it's a shot-for-shot remake of Yu Yu Hakusho's final chapter where Yusuke and Keiko do the same.

It's even what Yusuke thinks to himself in the finale, and it's a hilarious shout out to the series that's now celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Yu Yu Hakusho's original release. With the series soon releasing a live-action series with Netflix, these tributes in Jujutsu Kaisen are far from all we'll get to see before the year comes to an end.

What did you think of Jujutsu Kaisen's shout out to Yu Yu Hakusho in the manga's latest chapter? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

10 Best Isekai Anime to Watch Right Now https://comicbook.com/anime/news/best-isekai-anime-watch/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 23:08:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0b4f8381-64e4-4722-b31e-67ef55f9e712

It is hard to imagine what the anime industry would look like now without isekai. For years now, the genre has been growing in scale, and now isekai anime is everywhere you look. From fantasy thrillers to romantic comedies, there is an isekai anime out there for everyone. So of course, there are plenty of people looking for the right show to add to their watch list.

Here at ComicBook, we have put in the hours needed to become isekai experts. From recent hits to genre classics, we are here to share 10 of the best isekai series available. We're taking out the guess work for you, so if you've ever wanted to see what isekai is about, ComicBook has you covered.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reinarnation

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation may be the current leader when it comes to isekai anime. After debuting in November 2012, the story's hit anime has charmed the fandom with the help of Rudeus Greyrat. The harem fantasy tells the story of a 34-year-old man who sacrifices his meaningless life to save some teens in the real world. When he awakens, the man finds himself reborn in a new world as Rudeus, and he finds himself on an escort mission years later when his nation is blighted by a magical catastrophe.

The Eminence in Shadow

If you like dark fantasy, The Eminence in Shadow has what you want. The isekai follows a young boy who dreams of ruling the world from the shadows, but he is killed at a young age. The lead is reborn in a fantasy world as Cid, and his plan begins anew as he forms a cult based on a lie. But as it turns out, Cid's lie was very much real, and his phony cult is thrust into a real dangerous power struggle.

The Rising of the Shield Hero

The Rising of the Shield Hero is one an isekai packed with comedy and action. Created by Anew Yusagi, the series tells the story of Naofumi as the man is summoned to a new world with three others and crowned Cardinal Heroes. While the others are gifted weapons like swords, Naofumi is blessed with a shield that leaves the public unimpressed. Bamboozled and betrayed, Naofumi finds himself a partner named Raphtalia, and his crew works to show the public why Naofumi should be respected as a shield hero.

Inuyasha

If you have been in the anime fandom for awhile, you know the name Inuyasha. The series is considered a classic shonen at this point, and Inuyasha has spawned oh-so many memes. However, the story stands as a damn good isekai. It tells the story of Kagome, a high school girl who falls into a well and arrives in a bygone era of Japan. It is there Kagome learns she is the reincarnation of a priestess who is bound to protect a relic known as the Shikon Jewel. The only problem is that demon from all over want the gem, and this forces Kagome to team up unwillingly with a half-demon named Inuyasha who dreams of becoming a full-blooded demon.

Log Horizon

There are a number of isekai stories that take characters into a video game world. Sword Art Online mastered the tale, but Log Horizon took the trope to new heights. The sci-fi story follows players of the game Elder Tale. When 30,000 fans become stuck in game, tensions arise between the players and the game's NPCs as they become self aware. As such, one gamer named Shiroe team up to form a guild for survival all while searching for ways to escape Elder Tale.

Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World

Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World might be one of the funniest isekai titles ever. Created in December 2012, Konosuba is now seen as a gold standard for anime fans who want a good chuckle. The series tells the story of Kazume Satou after the teenager dies an embarrassing death and meets the goddess Aqua in their afterlife. Agreeing to help the goddess, Kazume is reborn in a parallel world with magic, and the pair from a disjointed party with the hopes of killing the Devil King.

Sonny Boy

If you like more serious stories, isekai has what you're looking for in Sonny Boy. The original series was created by Shingo Netsuke, and it follows a trio of middle school students who are transported into an odd liminal world. Loaded with unique rules, this new world bequeaths our leads with supernatural powers, but the friends still struggle to return home as they fight with one another. And as their journey through This World continues, the gang learns thousands of others are also trapped in this dimension with them.

My Next Life as a Villainess

Sometimes, it is good to be bad. My Next Life as a Villainess proves this much is true as the rom-com follows a young woman who learns she has been reincarnated after death. The girl now lives in the world of an otome game titled Fortune Lover, but there is one issue - Catarina is the villain! Desperate to avoid her nasty fate, Catarina tries to avoid the pitfalls of the game she played in the real world, but her unique choices impact the otome universe in tons of strange ways.

Ascendance of a Bookworm

If you love a good book, Ascendance of a Bookworm was made for you. The fantasy series tells the story of Urano Motosu, a hopeful librarian who is killed by her own books. When she awakens, the girl - now named Myne - is in her worst nightmare. Our heroine was reborn in a world where only the most elite have access to books, so Myne takes life in her own hands. The young girl begins writing books of her own, and this move brings all sorts of unwanted attention to the bookish girl.

Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World

When it comes to isekai anime, no series is better known than Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, and there is a good reason why. Created by Taipei Nagasaki, this adventure isekai has everything you could want in a story. From death to love and drama, Re:Zero does it all with the help of Subaru Netsuke. The boy finds himself transported to a fantasy world and is killed rather quickly only to discover his unique power. Subaru cannot die; He simply revives himself at a point in time earlier than his death. Using his power, Subaru is able to befriend the next queen Emilia, but threats against this friend leave Subaru cornered at every turn even with is unique power.

The Great North Season 4 Release Date Announced https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-great-north-season-4-release-date/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 23:06:00 +0000 Nick Valdez d639af79-b690-4e58-aa65-da8cd2c19d6b

The Great North is finally returning to FOX with the highly anticipated Season 4 of the animated series, and now it finally has a release date for its big comeback next year! The Great North has been a welcome addition to FOX's lineup for the Animation Domination block in recent years as it has paired nicely with the likes of Bob's Burgers, of which it shares an executive producer and animation studio. The series has been such a hit that when Season 3 wrapped up its run last Spring, fans were already asking to see Season 4 as soon as possible.

FOX has announced their new additions for the midseason schedule starting this January, and with it has also confirmed that The Great North Season 4 will be one of the animated premieres fans will get to see in action as well. FOX has officially revealed that The Great North Season 4 will begin airing on Sunday, January 7th as part of the Animation Domination block. But with the series making a comeback in January, there will also be some big changes to FOX's Sunday night schedules overall.

The Great North Season 4 Release Schedule

The Great North Season 4 will be returning to FOX on Sundays at 9:30 PM EST beginning on January 7th, but Sunday evenings will be changing its schedule around next year in some massive ways. The same night will also see the premiere of the Jon Hamm led Grimsburg, which will be making its midseason debut. This means that Family Guy's new episodes will be bumped to Wednesday evenings when it returns later in the Spring, and that's going to be some big changes for long time fans.

If you wanted to catch The Great North's first three seasons before the animated series returns for new episodes next year, you can find it now streaming with Hulu. They tease the series as such, "Following the adventures of the Tobin family, as single dad Beef tries to keep his kids close." When it returns for Season 4, it's likely going to be just as great as the first three seasons were.

Are you excited to see The Great North come back for Season 4 in January? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Creators Explain Why Now Was the Right Time For His Return (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/anime/news/scott-pilgrim-takes-off-creators-exclusive-modern-day/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 22:53:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 1d446f55-d455-442f-8b39-4249a1150a8c

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has arrived on Netflix. Recreating the story that first arrived as a graphic novel series from artist Bryan Lee O'Malley, the story of Scott sees him fighting against the Evil Exes of Ramona Flowers in an effort to become an item. Recently, we here at ComicBoook.com had the opportunity to chat with O'Malley and producer BenDavid Grabinski regarding now seemed like the right time to bring back Scott and how the series was better for being made now rather than in the past.

The anime adaptation from Science Saru threw fans for a loop by presenting a story that wasn't just a direct recreation of the original story from either the original graphic novels and/or the live-action film. While the cast of the movie did reprise their roles, Scott's adventure this time around was quite different from his original quest.

Scott Pilgrim In The Present

Bryan Lee O'Malley, the creator of the franchise and artist behind the original graphic novels, discussed why felt like the right time to bring back Scott Pilgrim to the public eye, "It's a combination of things. Scott has been laying dormant for a little while but I still hear from fans and I would still find myself drawing stuff from this world fairly regularly. It was really the idea of collaborating with Science Saru, working with the original cast, and with Edgar Wright. That would be such a beautiful dream come true. In 2020, I started talking with BenDavid about it and he had some big ideas. It's been three or four years of back and forth and it developed into something really unique and special."

BenDavid, a producer and co-creator of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off added to O'Malley's thoughts on why Scott, Ramona, and the Evil Exes needed to return, "The 'now' of everything really comes down to when someone will greenlight a project but in this case, our show is better for when it got made. These two things happening at the same time for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a happy coincidence. We think that it's a better show because Bryan has been with this for so long, and if we had made it ten years ago, it wouldn't have been as good."

What did you think of this latest story retelling the life of Scott Pilgrim, his allies, and his enemies? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of Scott Pilgrim.

Squid Game: The Challenge Is Just as Depressing As You'd Think https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/squid-game-the-challenge-netflix-review/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 22:26:00 +0000 Nick Valdez dde4a032-ec11-4fa6-bc9c-456a96d2cb5d

Squid Game was one of the most popular Netflix series releases in recent memory, and now the game concept at the center of it all has been morphed into the basis for a new reality game show competition that's just as every bit as depressing as you'd think from a series based on Squid Game. Hwang Dong-hyuk's original Squid Game series really took over the world thanks to its bleak outlook. Taking people who had literally nothing to lose and suffering from mountains of debt and having them compete in a death game with a child like packaging, Squid Game lit the imaginations of fans everywhere.

Squid Game's main hook was that those in charge of the games themselves were actively ridiculing those contestants losing their lives for the chance at a massive money prize. Squid Game: The Challenge then takes this already, eerily realistic premise and makes it even more real. It's almost a perfect setting for a reality television game show as not only does Squid Game: The Challenge further enhance that inherent cruelty that reality shows are capable of, but puts its contestants through the bleak Squid Game wringer to deliver some honestly enthralling and intriguing television like no other.

(Photo: Netflix)

Why You Should Watch Squid Game: The Challenge

Squid Game: The Challenge is inspired by the original series, but is not beholden to it. While the competition plays out through the same overall core idea of gathering over 400 contestants for the chance of winning a massive prize, there are several twists and turns that even the most dedicated Squid Game fans would not see coming. This is to throw off not only the audience, but the contestants themselves as they are always kept on their toes for what could come next.

Although it's (thankfully) far from the death game seen in the original series, Squid Game: The Challenge is no less brutal. In fact, it might even be more so because it's being played without that threat of death. Instead, the real hook comes from the contestants themselves who each have their own compelling stories. You'll likely pick someone to root for, and find out the (often) tragic reason the money could change their lives, only for them to be quickly eliminated not long after.

It's going to hit hard when some of these contestants are eliminated because these are real people with very real lives to go back to after this. Their tears are real, their panic is real, and ultimately their eliminations hit that much harder. And just like the best reality competitions, the opposite can also be very true as well. Like Squid Game, there are contestants that approach the competition in a very aggressive manner. Some who paint big targets on their back early on, and there's a bit of celebration to each of their respective eliminations.

Squid Game: The Challenge is all of the fun of the Squid Game games (with plenty of new and unexpected trials), but without the threat of death. It's even more heartbreaking, however, as these very real people put themselves through hell for the chance at changing their lives. And for someone sitting on the outside of it all, someone fully immersed in the inherent wickedness of reality shows, watching it all play out makes for some top-tier television.

Squid Game: The Challenge is now streaming its first five episodes on Netflix.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Introduces a New Brand of Enemy https://comicbook.com/anime/news/boruto-two-blue-vortex-new-enemy-villains-divine-trees-alive/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 22:03:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw ff612188-97e0-4546-b1bd-d80355e61a69

The Naruto Saga has dropped another big twist on fans, as seen in the latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. The first Boruto series redefined everything we know about the Shinobi world and its great enemy, The Otsutsuki Clan, as well as the villains' true plans for Earth using the Ten-tails and Divine Tree. However, now Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has revealed that thanks to the events of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations' final arc, a new enemy has arisen to threaten the world - a bigger threat than the Otsutsuki may have ever been!

(SPOILERS) Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 picks up with Boruto tracking his foe cyborg foe Code to the lair where he's hiding a Ten-Tails. The only thing is, when Boruto and Code both look, the Ten-Tails is no longer imprisoned: it's broken free on its own and changed form, taking on a much more humanoid appearance. Code is bewildered: Boruto had warned him that his gang of pet Ten-Tails was about to break off their leash - but Code never thought that meant literally!

New Naruto Villians: The Divine Trees

(Photo: Viz Media)

Boruto reveals to Code that what he's seeing is the unexpected offshoot of whatever "enhancement" process was done to the Ten-Tails (as seen in Chapter 2). The normal process of a Ten-Tails is to devour the chakra of whatever is fed to them until they consume an Otsutsuki and become a Divine Tree, capable of siphoning the chakra of entire planets, which surviving Otsutsuki then consume as chakra fruit, extending their lives and helping them evolve their powers and forms. However, Code's changes to the Ten-Tails birthed self-awareness in the Divine Trees they form - and now those Divine Trees are alive and sentient - and hungry to consume.

There's a lot we still don't know about the years that Boruto was on the run from Hidden Leaf Village, under Sasuke's tutelage. These first four chapters of Two Blue Vortex have peppered in some pretty big clues:

  • Code enhanced the Ten-Tails and used them as his own soldiers.
  • Code's Ten-Tails would bite their non-Otsutsuki victims, turning them into Divine Trees wherever they stood.
  • Those Divine Trees became sentient and created bodies for themselves using a hybrid of the genetic imprints of those trapped in the Divine Trees and the Ten-Tails.
  • Sasuke is one of the people who was trapped inside a Divine Tree (for an unknown length of time). Subsequently, one of the living Divine Trees is a clone of Sasuke.
  • Boruto and his new teacher Koji Kashin (Jiraiyas' clone) learned what was happening with the Divine Tree and tried to avert it - but were clearly too late. Koji makes it sound as if Plan B will be an all-out war against the Divine Trees, for the fate of the planet.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex releases new chapters online.

How Rick and Morty Season 7 Makes Evil Morty the Biggest Villain https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-season-7-villains-evil-morty-omega-device/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 21:49:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 5f39ce2c-316d-423a-ae37-a28845c79012

Rick and Morty first introduced Evil Morty as one of the main antagonists in the series before introducing a seemingly bigger villain with Rick Prime in Season 6, but Season 7 has already proven that Evil Morty is going to be the big villain that Rick will need to keep an eye on in the future. Rick and Morty Season 7 shook things up in a massive way by bringing back both Rick Prime and Evil Morty within a single episode, and with it demonstrated the differences between the two villains. Differences that highlighted that Rick wasn't his own worst enemy.

Evil Morty returned in Rick and Morty Season 7 following a successful escape from the Central Finite Curve, which was already a massive victory over Rick in a string of other major victories in the series since his debut appearance. Evil Morty has seemingly had the upper hand over Rick this entire time, and although Rick had been focused on his greater nemesis, Evil Morty's big return further demonstrated that he really has been the biggest threat in Rick's multiverse overall.

rick-and-morty-season-7-evil-morty-origin.jpg
(Photo: Adult Swim)

Why Evil Morty is Worse Than Rick Prime

Rick and Morty Season 7 sees Evil Morty return when Rick begins to mess with the Central Finite Curve in an attempt to locate Rick Prime, and notably it's only when Evil Morty gives Rick an idea to narrow down the search that Rick actually hones in on a location. Through "Unmorticken" fans see how Evil Morty stacks to not only C-137 Rick, but the other Ricks in the multiverse. Easily defeating them, the biggest test comes when he stacks up to Rick Prime and defeats him as well.

Evil Morty is able to take advantage of the fact that Ricks don't really see Mortys as a threat (something that has been the through line in each of Evil Morty's plans so far), and tricks Rick Prime into leaving a big enough opening to paralyze him. Then he takes Rick Prime's ultimate weapon, the "Omega Device," with the intent of enhancing it and making it even better than Rick did. Now as he lords it over Rick and teases future appearances, Evil Morty has the biggest threat both literally and metaphorically over Rick. He's a Morty that can and does win, and he has the weapon to make it happen.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Embraces Sasuke's Villain Era https://comicbook.com/anime/news/boruto-two-blue-vortex-manga-spoilers-sasuke-villain/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 21:48:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 0ae30efd-64ef-4fee-905c-479a9f49c4e6

Sasuke Uchiha has been a valuable teacher to Boruto Uzumaki in both Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. While Two Blue Vortex introduced Sarada and Boruto three years following the events of the prior series, the manga hadn't revealed Sasuke Uchiha's status until this latest chapter. Unfortunately for the ninja world, it would seem that Sasuke might once again be becoming a villain but not in a way that anyone was expecting when it came to the member of the Uchiha Clan.

Warning. If you haven't read the latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 3, you might want to steer clear as we'll be diving into spoiler territory. It's hard to dispute that Sasuke was at least hovering in villain territory in Naruto: Shippuden. Attempting to eliminate his brother, Sasuke achieves his goal but discovers that there was taking place more behind the scenes than he had expected. Placing the blame on Konoha for the death of his people, Sasuke wasn't afraid to take down anyone that got in his way, which included his former teammates Sakura and Naruto. In Two Blue Vortex, while Sasuke doesn't have an ax to grin with the Hidden Leaf, he has inadvertently spawned a new antagonist.

Sasuke's Divine Tree Era

The Divine Tree has been an element linked to the Otsutsuki for some time, as the mystical fauna would allow the space ninjas to take the chakra from a world and place it into Divine Fruit. Eating said fruit would help the Otsutsuki gain immortality but a fascinating new wrinkle has taken place in the pages of Two Blue Vortex. The tree has seemingly become sentient and has absorbed four characters to create twisted iterations of the ninjas, one of which just so happens to be Sasuke Uchiha.

So far, Sasuke and Code's henchman Bug have been revealed to be servants of the Divine Tree, with their original bodies trapped within its roots. Joined by two other mysterious characters, Boruto and Konoha have some fearsome new foes to tangle with in Two Blue Vortex's future. While it might not be Sasuke pulling the strings, his strength is going to be a major asset for the Divine Tree.

What do you think of Sasuke once again taking on the role of villain in Two Blue Vortex? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Demon Slayer Ratings Rundown Proves the Swordsmith Village Arc Was a Hit https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-anime-season-3-ratings/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 21:36:00 +0000 Megan Peters 8c23329b-504c-4abc-8e5f-f31b06df44bf

There is little need to introduce Demon Slayer at this point. Following its anime debut, the series has become a bonafide hit, and it is considered a leader within the industry. With several seasons under its belt, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba hardly needs to prove itself to fans given its popularity. However, a new report has gone live with the show's latest ratings, and it proves season three was a total hit.

The update comes courtesy of Videor in Japan as the company released its TV findings. After looking through the data, the company released a report breaking down the top-watched programs in Japan during this year's first half. So when anime was put on the spot, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba came in first place.

It turns out the finale of season three brought tons of eyes to Fuji TV back in June. The show pulled 22.87 million viewers with its finale broadcast. As for second place, Demon Slayer took the silver with a different finale. Fuji TV released a special blending the anime's Entertainment District into a double-feature. The episode brought in 22.51 million viewers, and these findings are leagues above any other anime listed.

After all, third place went to an episode of Sazae-san from February, and it brought in just over 14 million viewers. Detective Conan came in fourth place, and fifth was dedicated to Chibi Maruko-san as a January episode drew in 10.6 million viewers.

Clearly, Demon Slayer has incredible pull with fans, and the anime has the hard data to back up the claim. From record-breaking box office hauls to finale ratings, Demon Slayer is in a league of its own right now. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Animated Trilogy Gets First Trailer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/justice-league-crisis-on-infinite-earths-animated-trilogy-gets-first-trailer/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 20:25:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 03114738-b3c0-4c85-a5fe-fb64c09616dc

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the first trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One, the first of three direct-to-consumer animated movies based on the comic book mega-crossover from the 1980s. The event centers on The Monitor, a being of nearly infinite cosmic power, bringing the heroes of DC's multiverse together to do battle with the Anti-Monitor, a his doppelganger from the anti-matter universe. In the story, the Anti-Monitor was destroying universes, transforming them into anti-matter to expand his domain, and weakening the Monitor's power in the process.

The original story, from 1985, created seismic changes at DC, merging the multiple Earths of the multiverse into one single, coherent (if cluttered) timeline. Timelines shifted, origins changed, and some characters ceased to exist entirely. It also led to the rise of event comics as one of the direct market's most important sales drivers.

You can see it below.

DC has published enough sequels to Crisis on Infinite Earths in the years since that characters within the DC Universe coined a specific term for them, "Crisis Events." Those sequels include 1994's Zero Hour: A Crisis in Time, 2005's Infinite Crisis, 2008's Final Crisis, 2011's Flashpoint, and 2022's Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. DC's television Arrowverse adapted the story into the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" event in 2019. That story spanned Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman episodes, as well as cameo appearances by Black Lightning and numerous characters from throughout DC TV history, including Tom Welling's Clark Kent, Kevin Conroy's Bruce Wayne, and more.

Since multi-part animated adaptations of both Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen were announced, some fans have questioned whether these two massive stories meant DC would be putting their long-running series of animated movies on ice after 2024. If so, it would line up with the creation of James Gunn's new DC Universe, which he has promised will tie live-action movies and TV together with animation and video games into one clear universe with the same actors playing the parts across all media. Warners has yet to confirm these suspicions, though, and it's equally possible that they just felt like they really needed a guaranteed win while the live-action movies are on hiatus.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths releases in 2024. DC's newest animated movie, Justice League: Warworld, premiered at Comic-Con in July ahead of its release Digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray.

Rick And Morty Cosplay Recreates Evil Morty's Origin https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-cosplay-evil-morty-origin/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 19:59:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 0bb218a1-e189-47b9-b7a7-32bcfc240358

Rick And Morty's seventh season gave fans "Unmortricken", an episode that not only brought back Rick Prime, but Evil Morty as well. In a strange twist of fate, the "evil" iteration of Morty Smith lent a hand in the fight against the series' big bad, giving the titular characters a leg up against the antagonist. In the recent installment of the Adult Swim juggernaut, we were given a better glimpse into Evil Morty's new life as well as his origin story, with a pair of cosplayers recreating the earlier life of the variants.

"Evil Morty" doesn't truly live up to his name. For example, he wasn't seeking to eliminate Rick And Morty as of late, but was attempting to escape a multiverse that the Council of Ricks had controlled. In the new multiverse that Evil Morty resides, countless universe-hopping travelers are jumping into this reality and normally are killed for doing so. Thanks to his advanced intelligence and the technology at his fingertips, Evil Morty hasn't just survived, but he has thrived, finding a paradise for himself in this new world. Of course, this doesn't last long as he finds himself encountering the Rick and Morty we've come to know once again.

Rick And Morty: Evil Morty's Origin Story

Evil Morty had his own "Evil Rick" though he was far from the likes of Rick Prime. Getting his Rick drunk, Evil Morty was effectively able to make Sanchez his slave, proving as such in the first season where the pair were first introduced. The end of the animated series' fifth season saw the Council of Ricks destroyed following Evil Morty's presidency win, and set the stage for the brave new world.

While Rick Prime has been killed and the seventh season has had some major events take place, Rick And Morty still has a handful of episodes left before its season finale. Now that the series is missing its main antagonist thanks to dying at the hands of Rick, many fans are left wondering who the next big villain will be if any. In the lead-up to season seven, an "Evil Summer" was hinted who might just take the place of Rick Prime.

My Hero Academia Creator Kohei Horikoshi Needs to Make a Horror Series ASAP https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-kohei-horikoshi-horror/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 19:53:00 +0000 Megan Peters 43d84f25-300e-4435-81cb-9f7782076196

For years now, Kohei Horikoshi has been doing good work with My Hero Academia. It wouldn't be too much to say the superhero series is one of anime's biggest series in ages. Like Naruto and One Piece before it, My Hero Academia has a legion of fans, and netizens across the globe look up to Horikoshi. And right about now, it seems the fandom is begging for Horikoshi to make their own horror series.

You might think the pitch is strange given Horikoshi's body of work, but it is hardly surprising. Sure, My Hero Academia is all about superheroes, but that has not stopped Horikoshi from exploring horror through the genre. From body horror to monster scares, My Hero Academia has laid the foundation for Horikoshi to scare us all.

These days, My Hero Academia has reignited the fandom's pleas for Horikoshi thanks to its final act. It has been some months since the manga began its final act, and the war saga has been incredibly intense. This week's update left fans slack jawed over All For One's flashback chapter. Horikoshi inked the villain's backstory with exceptional skill, and it toed into every skin-crawling trope out there.

Don't believe it? Well, just take a peek at My Hero Academia chapter 407 for yourself. As you can see above, some of its panels alone are nightmare fuel, and that doesn't even account for Horikoshi's writing. In the past, the artist told fans in an author's note he wanted to do more with horror, and he is definitely seeing that dream through now. So once My Hero Academia closes, the fandom is all too ready for Horikoshi to launch his own horror series.

Of course, Horikoshi is working hard on My Hero Academia for now. The manga is in its final act, yes, but it has been working through tons of different arcs. It seems the hit Shonen Jump title will continue well into 2024. But as for what the future holds? Well, we hope it scares us!

What do you think about Horikoshi's style evolution? What kind of story do you want the artist to tackle after My Hero Academia? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Jujutsu Kaisen Star Warns Fans Ahead of Next Season Two Episode https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-nanami-actor/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 19:23:00 +0000 Megan Peters de5b6337-4fbf-4af5-94bb-d7491642a464

Jujutsu Kaisen season two is far from over, and its next update may be what tips the fandom upside down. It has been weeks since the anime began its journey with the Shibuya Incident arc, after all. The story has brought out a number of intense episodes, and they have left several sorcerers in the balance. And now, the voice actor behind Nanami Kento is reaching out to caution fans ahead of season two episode 18.

The information comes straight from Kenjiro Tsuda on social media as you can see below. The voice actor, who has voiced Nanami since Jujutsu Kaisen began, shared a message with fans. "Tomorrow, November 23rd, is the broadcast date of Jujutsu Kaisen in Japan. To all Nanamin fans and Jujutsu Kaisen fans, please support us," he wrote.

Continuing, Tsuda told fans that it doesn't matter what language they use when sending in their messages; It is the sentiment that means the most. After all, Tsuda admits the love will be needed this week, and anime fans are already fearing the worse.

It is no secret that Nanami has had a rough time since the Shibuya Incident arc began. After Gojo was sealed, Nanami arrived on scene to protect his students, and he has not left their side for any reason. From facing an army of soldiers to fighting Dogan, Nanami is hurting something fierce these days. It would not be wrong to say Nanami is just a few steps from death, so Tsuda's message to fans has them feeling worried.

And of course, manga readers know exactly what awaits them this week. Jujutsu Kaisen season two has been a whirlwind, and its action sequences have been center stage as of late. Now, Jujutsu Kaisen is ready to shift gears and hone in on its emotional plays. After all, the hour of Nanami's death is near, and you know Tsuda will hold nothing back in his performance.

If you are not caught up with the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, don't fret! The show is easy to find online courtesy of Cruncyroll. So for more information on the series, you can read the official synopsis of Jujutsu Kaisen below:

"Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses... and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back."

My Hero Academia Reveals All For One's First Nemesis https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-all-for-one-first-opponent/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 19:15:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a3e49d68-a1d4-4a61-ae81-41d08ff30321

My Hero Academia's final saga has presented some of the biggest battles of the superhero shonen series to date. Taking a break from the war featuring the biggest heroes and villains of the series, the manga has decided to focus on the origin story of All For One, the big bad of the series. Much like his character, the latest installment has been nothing but dark as readers are shown the terrifying beginnings of the man that is as twisted as his powerset.

Warning. If you have yet to read the latest chapter of My Hero Academia's manga, Chapter 407, be forewarned that we'll be diving into serious spoiler territory. While All For One has seemed like he was only seeking to eliminate All Might throughout My Hero Academia, the nameless figure has existed long before Toshinori Yagi hit the scene. Born from a sex worker who died the moment that he was born, All For One believed that the world was his and that everyone living within it was his own property to do with as he wished. In All For One's first opponent, this is made disturbingly clear as he doesn't take on someone who is in his weight class.

All For One Vs. Baby

The "Luminescent Baby" was the first being recorded to have a Quirk, ushering in an era wherein heroes and villains would come to populate the world. Of course, as we now know, All For One predated the birth of this child before becoming the terrifying villain he is today. As he reports back to his brother, All For One did the unthinkable and murdered the child to steal its Quirk and move forward with his plan of making the world his.

"Did you hear? Apparently, the famous glowing baby reached ten million supporters. Weird, right? I mean, why them? Just because they were officially the first one in the record books? Two weeks ago, in India alone, fifty babies were born with Meta abilities. How'd they manage to rally so many people to them? Isn't it bizarre? So I killed that leader and stole what was theirs."

What did you think of All For One's terrifying origin story? Do you think Bakugo will be the one to take down All Might's bitter archenemy? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of UA Academy.

Attack on Titan: Does Mikasa Find Love After the Anime's Finale? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/attack-on-titan-final-episode-mikasa-relationship-status/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 18:30:00 +0000 Evan Valentine ab2bee50-cd80-4341-8fd4-56fa04bf487c

Attack on Titan's final episode has come and gone, so now is the time for anime fans to study the events that brought the Scout Regiment's journey to an end. In the final fight between the Survey Corps and Eren Jaeger, Mikasa was forced to make some drastic decisions to save what was left of the world's population. Following the climactic battle, the last installment gave anime fans a look into the future and confirmed the relationship status of Mikasa in her future.

Warning. If you have yet to watch the final episode of Attack on Titan, be forewarned that we'll be diving into serious spoiler territory for the last battle that ended the series. Mikasa's bond with Eren Jaeger has long been a major element in Attack on Titan, joining the Scouts specifically to make sure that the young Jaeger would survive. This fact made Mikasa's actions in the last episode all the more tragic as she was forced to not only fight against the new Founding Titan, but also take off Eren's head in order to stop his genocidal rampage. Following Eren's death, Mikasa left the Scout Regiment and viewers were shown glimpses of her life down the road.

(Photo: MAPPA)

Mikasa Gets Married

While not flat-out confirmed, Attack on Titan hints at the fact that Mikasa ends up with Jean Kirstein, the Survey Corps member that has long held feelings for Ackerman. Mikasa would also have children of her own and despite all the carnage that Eren had caused, both Mikasa and her partner still took time to visit his grave. Eventually, we are shown Mikasa's death, seemingly of old age, as she is laid to rest by her loving family. After all the battles that Mikasa was a part of in the anime series, she has certainly earned her fair share of peace.

Attack on Titan most likely won't be returning for a sequel, even though the final episode's post-credit scene does hint at more Titan action far into the future. Luckily, creator Hajime Isayama has confirmed that he is working on a new short story that will bring us back to the universe via a new artbook.

What did you think of the final episode of the brutal anime series? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of the Titans.

Berserk Manga Deluxe Editions Buy 2, Get 1 Free Black Friday Deal Is Back on Amazon https://comicbook.com/anime/news/berserk-manga-deluxe-editions-b2g1-free-amazon-book-sale-black-friday/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 18:13:00 +0000 Sean Fallon a873135b-120a-40d2-8044-367fbc6f4275 When Berserk creator Kentaro Miura died in 2021, many believed that one of the greatest manga of all-time would remain unfinished. Fortunately, Miura's friend Kouji Mori and the artists at Studio Gaga decided that they would bring closure to the story of Guts and the Band of the Hawk using Miura's notes as their guide. That said, if you want to get caught up before the grand finale now would be a very good time thanks to a massive Amazon B2G1 free Black Friday sale on books.

Indeed, Amazon is running a huge buy 2, get 1 free sale that contains thousands of books, most of which are heavily discounted to begin with. Berserk: Ten More Years?

In a recent interview, Kouji Mori stated that Berserk won't take "more than ten years" to finish. While the writer didn't commit to the number of chapters that the brutal manga series has left, the creative team clearly has a roadmap thanks to discussions and notes that they received from Kentaro Miura before his passing. Before Guts' story ends, he will have some more tough roads ahead of him.

Unfortunately, Berserk has yet to reveal if it will receive a new anime adaptation. The previous series focusing on the Band of the Hawk was Berserk: Memorial Edition, which focused on the Golden Age Arc and re-edited footage from the trilogy of films that hit the silver screen. Should a new anime series be confirmed, there is plenty of manga material that has yet to be adapted to the small screen.

Rick and Morty's New Stars Had the Strangest Audition Process https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-new-stars-strange-audition-process/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 17:45:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 2589c804-ab6f-47b5-b7c9-f77e8d3f2d3f

Rick And Morty's seventh season hasn't just thrown some major curveballs at fans, it implemented a major change to the cast that brings the Smith family to life. Following Adult Swim parting ways with the original voice actor that brought Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith to life, Justin Roiland, Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden have taken on the roles of the Adult Swim duo. Now, in a recent interview, the pair discusses the audition process that helped them score the parts.

This season has been quite the shocking one not just when it comes to some hilarious adventures, but when it comes to some major storybeats that have been a part of the animated series. In a recent episode, Rick Prime was finally defeated thanks to an assist from Evil Morty, leaving the future unclear for the Smith family.

How The New Rick And Morty Were Born

Cardoni got the ball rolling in chatting with the outlet The Hollywood Reporter, talking about the audition process that helped him become the next Rick Sanchez, "This audition process was certainly different from any other audition process I've been a part of in the past, even just for the sheer length of it. My first submission for this was in mid-February, and [I got the role] in early June. In between, there were many rounds of auditions. What's typical for auditions is you do the work and then wait for a response while you try to put it out of your mind and move on with your life. But this was many rounds of getting closer and closer and closer to the possibility of it, and it was harder to contain my excitement."

Belden extrapolated on Cardoni's audition description, noting that the pair was asked to recite some lines that fell outside of Rick And Morty's wheelhouse to see if they could remain in character, "Very similar to what Ian described. It was easily the longest and most intense audition process I've ever been a part of, but it was also the most fun. The people running the auditions kept throwing curveballs at us -- things you'd never hear these characters doing -- just to see if we could stay in character."

How do you think Cardoni and Belden have done so far as Rick and Morty? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of Adult Swim.

Naruto Introduces Another Uchiha Powerhouse, Hikari https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-boruto-who-is-nanashi-hikari-uchiha-powers-explained/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 17:44:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw e93146e8-b405-4f2a-bbcd-b4ea3fb09078

The Naruto Universe has introduced another powerhouse of the Uchiha Clan - and she goes by the name of Hikari Uchihia!

Hikari Uchiha's Power Explained

nanashi-hikari-uchiha.jpg
(Photo: Bandai Namco)

Actually, you'll probably hear Hikari more commonly referred to as "Nanashi," and she was a kunoichi of the Uchiha Clan during the Warring States Period of history, which preceded the formation of Konohagakure and the other hidden villages. Hikari had uniquely powerful chakra and jutsu abilities, including a full-matured Sharingan at a young age, and a Mangekyo Sharingan that allowed her to unleash a Genjutsu known as the Yachihoko, which allowed her to erase memories and control the minds and chakra of others.

During the Warring State Period, the Uchiha Clan used Hikari and her powers as a powerful weapon against the other shinobi clans. Hikari was similarly treated as a living weapon instead of a person; she had her real name replaced by "Nanashi," and was locked away in a cage during the war. The Sarutobi and Senju clans formed an alliance and used a fuinjutsu to seal Ninashi away, where she remained until the modern-day age of Boruto Uzumaki's youth.

How Nanashi Becomes A Villain

(Photo: Bandai Namco)

The Story Mode of the new game Naruto x Boruto: Ulitmate Ninja Storm Connections sees the game's main villain, Merz of the Zero organization, release Hikari from her seal. As a disciple of Pain and his Akatsuki, Merz manipulates Nanashi's feelings of hurt and anger into a plot to get revenge on the entire shinobi world. When Boruto gets into a popular online game called "Ninja Heroes" he begins to befriend the game's navigator, "Nanashi," only to realize something sinister is afoot...

(SPOILERS) During the course of Ultimate Nina Storm Connections' story, Merz and Nanashi use an Engraved Tsukuyomi and the Yachihoko to influence the entire shinobi world and nearly push it into the Fight Shinobi World War. Team 7, Hidden Leaf's heroes (Naruto and Sasuke), and Toneri Otsutsuki all unite in the fight, breaking the Yachihoko and then stopping Merz and Zero for good. However, during that fight Boruto's friendship causes Nanashi to change sides, and she sacrifices herself to help him win against Merz in battle.

Hikari Uchiha Redeemed

(Photo: Bandai Namco)

Nanashi's story doesn't end in that tragedy, though. Boruto gets sent back in time by Toneri Otsutsuki, where he meets and rescues Nanashi from the Uchiha Clan's cruelty during the Warring State Period. After battling their way out of the Uchiha Clan's stronghold, Boruto reveals her true name and identity to her, inspiring her to go off and live a life as something more than a living weapon.

Boruto gets the touching validation of Hikari having lived a good life, as he discovers upon returning to the present day that she leaves behind an account of how much he changed her life for the better.

Chainsaw Man Teases Denji's True Feelings for Asa https://comicbook.com/anime/news/chainsaw-man-chapter-149-denji-feelings/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 17:17:00 +0000 Megan Peters 635fbcdd-751a-43a4-be20-d4adb4f70f95

Chainsaw Man has put Denji through the wringer time and again. From birth, it seems the boy has been destined for pain, but Denji is doing his best to circumvent that fate. After becoming Chainsaw Man, Denji's life has been thrown into pure chaos, and some of its insanity has involved romance. So of course, it was just a matter of time before Denji began opening up about his feelings for his latest love interest, Asa.

The update came this week in Chainsaw Man chapter 149. This week, creator Tatsuki Fujimoto leveled with Denji as he and Nayuta discussed the pros and cons of humanity. With the world against Chainsaw Man, Denji's path has never been more unsure. This truth led Nayuta to suggest the pair work as devils, but the thought of Asa Mitaka kept Denji from swapping sides.

"I've kissed a bunch of times up until now, and it always went horribly wrong. That kiss with Asa was the one time I didn't get hurt," the boy admitted. In the manga, Denji's face is unusually vulnerable as he admits this, but it does not last long. When Nayuta asks who he likes better, the Control Devil reincarnate is picked quickly, but Denji did admit to liking Asa somewhat.

As most know, being a teenager is hard, and love is complicated no matter what age you are. In the past, Denji has been used and abused by his love interests. From Makima to Reze and even Himeno, Denji hasn't had the best luck with love. Asa seems to mark a major shift in Denji's love life even if the boy is not sure how to voice his feelings. But for now, well - it seems Denji is fine leading his life with Nayuta as he tries to prevent the Death Devil from taking over the Earth.

If you are not caught up with the Chainsaw Man manga, the series can be read over on the Shonen Jump app. For more info on the series, you can read the official synopsis of Chainsaw Man below:

"Denji is a young boy who works as a Devil Hunter with the "Chainsaw Devil" Pochita. One day, as he was living his miserable life trying to pay off the debt he inherited from his parents, he got betrayed and killed. As he was losing his consciousness, he made a deal with Pochita, and got resurrected as the "Chainsaw Man": the owner of the Devil's heart."

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Clarifies Episode 18 Delay https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-episode-18-delay/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 17:14:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 0c31af77-8367-464e-b545-4efcb953def4

Jujutsu Kaisen has been making some headlines recently thanks to reports that MAPPA's animators are having a rough time working on the latest season. Almost shockingly to many anime fans, the season hasn't seen any delays as of yet when it comes to animating the Shibuya Incident Arc and the devastation that it has entailed. In a recent confirmation, MAPPA has confirmed whether or not episode eighteen of Jujutsu Kaisen's second season will be delayed and what that means for the latest storyline.

The artwork of this latest season has been staggering, as the heroes of Jujutsu Tech attempt to hold back the countless threats that have been unleashed upon the city known as Shibuya. Unfortunately, the loss of Gojo didn't just take a powerful force for good off the map, it also caused a flood of evil sorcerers to arrive in the arc as Geto, Mahito, and their crew attempt to take advantage of the chaos. In the last episode, anime viewers were able to see an Earth-shattering fight between Sukuna and Mahoraga, resulting in the deaths of quite a few innocent civilians and leaving Yuji Itadori with a serious mental breakdown.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Episode 18's Status

Jujutsu Kaisen's next episode will arrive on time in Japan for its regularly scheduled broadcast on Thursday, November 23rd, but the distribution to some streaming services will be changed to Friday, November 24th. There has yet to be an official statement as to whether or not this means the next episode will arrive late on Crunchyroll specifically. Whenever the next installment of the supernatural shonen series does land, it will be one worth watching.

Aside from Yuji reclaiming his physical form, the previous episode of the Shibuya Incident Arc also revealed that Nanami had survived the assault by Jogo. Unfortunately, Nanami did not come out of the battle unscathed as he is suffering from some serious burns that have burnt half of his body to a crisp. The Shibuya Incident Arc hasn't been taking any prisoners so far and it looks like that tradition will continue before Jujutsu Kaisen's second season comes to an end.

What have you thought of the Shibuya Incident Arc so far? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of Jujutsu Tech.

Naruto Dominates Poll Ranking Anime's Best Marriages https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-anime-best-married-couples/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 16:54:00 +0000 Megan Peters 5e4efca1-392a-4799-82c0-d7c1414edb82

When it comes to romance, anime has its fill. From rom-coms to shonen loves and beyond, the industry has more couples than fans could ever count. Of course, some of its ships are more popular than others, and that goes doubly for couples who manage to tie the knot. Now, a new anime poll is out ranking the industry's best marriages, and it seems Naruto has taken the top spot.

The information comes from Numan as the Japanese site polled users about anime's best married couples. After bringing in votes, the poll revealed its top ten picks, and Naruto's Sasuke x Sakura ship won first place.

In fact, Naruto showed up more than once on this list. The series took second place as well thanks to Naruto x Hinata. Only one other anime landed on this top ten list twice, and that is Bleach. So clearly, the shonen fandom doesn't mind a bit of romance.

From Bleach to Sword Art Online, this poll takes a number of popular conversations into account. So if you want to read through its top ten picks, you can read the full list below:

  1. Sasuke x Sakura
  2. Naruto x Hinata
  3. Yoh x Anna
  4. Loid x Yor
  5. Ichigo x Orihime
  6. Kiyoka x Mayo
  7. Yusaku x Yukiko
  8. Kirito x Asuna
  9. Hohenheim x Trisha
  10. Renji x Rukia

As you can see, this couple breakdown features some of the anime fandom's biggest ships. Naruto sparked shipping wars left and right in its heyday, after all. By the time Boruto: Naruto Next Generations was released, fans were eager to see how the story's romances would shake out. Other old-school series like Shaman King and Fullmetal Alchemist made the cut here as well, but some newer titles are also represented. Spy x Family and My Happy Marriage are seen on this list, so there is a good variety of ships here to stan.

What do you make of this latest anime ranking? Did the poll pick the right couples? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Hunter x Hunter: Breaking Down the Manga's Potential Ending https://comicbook.com/anime/news/hunter-x-hunter-manga-ending-explained/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 16:25:00 +0000 Evan Valentine ec7a0c25-b423-4378-b5ba-89b6742ebbad

The creator of Hunter x Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi, hasn't been shy when it comes to discussing his health issues. While the mangaka was able to return to the series to continue the Succession Contest Arc, Togashi needed to take a hiatus from a weekly release schedule. In a recent turn of events, Yoshihiro took the opportunity to reveal a potential ending for the series that fans could look toward should he not be able to finish the story of Gon and his fellow hunters.

In a recent interview, the creator of the popular shonen franchise revealed that he had created four different endings for Hunter x Hunter. The ending he revealed as but one of four, as "Endings A, B, and C" did not live up to Togashi's "high satisfaction standards". In this new ending, we are introduced to a young girl named "Jin", who is the granddaughter of Gon. Painting a scene that is quite similar to Gon's introduction in Hunter x Hunter's first chapter, though Jin is adamant about never leaving the island or becoming a hunter, which is quite different from her grandfather's journey.

Hunter x Hunter's Finale In Detail

Hunter x Hunter's revealed ending works well at giving manga readers an idea of how the shonen franchise will end, while still having plenty of unanswered questions for the potential final chapters. Anime fans aren't given an idea of what happened to the likes of Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio, along with the members of the villainous Phantom Troupe. Hopefully, Hunter x Hunter fans will one day see an official ending hit the pages of the manga.

If you haven't had the opportunity to check out the ending, it reads as such, "Next to the lake, a girl named Jin, holding a fishing rod, stands motionless. Suddenly, the rod shakes violently, and Jin, startled, exclaims, "I got him! I got the Lake Lord!" She skillfully lifts the Lake Lord onto her shoulders and stands before a woman, saying, "As I promised, I caught the Lake Lord! Mom!" Jin approaches the woman and passionately declares, "You must not tell me again. You must become a hunter."

The woman, with no tricks left, nods her head. Jin, still carrying the Lake Lord on her shoulder, walks away. The mother comments to her husband that Jin's dream is to never leave the island and inherit their place. The father agrees, laughing, and the mother expresses her dissatisfaction, saying, "Perhaps her desires will change later. But I want to know, you and Jin, why are you like this? Surely it's because of the blood of Grandma Mito and Grandma Noko."

The woman seems unaware that Grandma Mito and Grandma Noko are not related by blood, and the father smiles knowingly. The woman, expressing her unwillingness as a mother, adds, "But Grandpa Gon was a famous hunter... and this girl will one day leave the island."

Jin insists, "I will never leave!" Although she is no longer visible in the heart of the forest, she hears her parents' conversation and responds defiantly. The father, amused, says, "You have a sharp eye."

The scene changes to the shop continuing its work from Mito's days. The Lake Lord has been cleanly cut, and its internal parts sorted. Jin thinks to herself while working, "Mom never understands. When Grandpa speaks joyfully about his memories of being a hunter, Grandma Noko quietly moves away from her seat. Every time Grandpa Gon affirms, her belief is heard from someone. She strikes the cutting board forcefully with a knife (I'm tired of this!!) To wait for someone's return after months and years of sadness crushes my heart... I make someone wait for me! I. Then the door opens, and a warm voice echoes. A chubby little child enters, holding a plant.

The child exclaims, "I caught the Lake Lord for real! Well, let's honor the whole island with it!" Jin replies, "I always... always wanted to be with the person I want to be with. Together, always!" The child agrees, "Yes!" Both of them, with broad smiles on their faces, cook the food. A bird flies away from the island, over a town and its people. The son of one of them, the daughter of another, and the grandchild of another live in different places, exchanging smiles. They might be the children of that character and the grandchildren of that character. The bird flies away into the distance.

In the background, a figure watches the scene.

The End."

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 18 Stills Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-episode-18/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 16:13:00 +0000 Megan Peters cd608464-39ad-4115-b6c5-33fcf0994b5a

Jujutsu Kaisen is gearing up for another season two blow out. If you have been keeping up with the anime, then you know the animators behind Jujutsu Kaisen are pulling all the stops. Despite recent complaints against MAPPA Studios' harsh deadlines, Jujutsu Kaisen has managed to make something special out of season two. And thanks to some new stills, we have been given a first look at episode 18.

And just so you know, this episode is going to break our hearts. Jujutsu Kaisen never said the Shibuya Incident arc would end happily, and it seems things are about to end for one character.

(Photo: MAPPA)

As you can see above, the stills for season two episode 18 focus on three heroes while the last puts Mahito in view. In one shot, we can see Yuji in focus as he bleeds from a cut on his face. Looking at a separate shot, we can see Nobara flashing a manic smile, and the third image is all about Nanami Kento. We can see the sorcerer in some sort of mindscape moment as Nanami walks the beach free of injury. But of course, we know Nanami is nowhere near the ocean.

After all, Nanami is in the thick of the Shibuya Incident, and he has yet to stand down. Despite facing dozens of opponents including Dagon, Nanami has yet to stop exploring the area. The man is very much on death's door right now, and his condition has had fans in knots for weeks. And given this episode's fourth still, well - it is safe to say Nanami and Mahito are about to have an unwelcome reunion.

If you have read the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, you will know how this upcoming episode ends, and its twist will break hearts across the world. You can catch up on the anime's second season with ease thanks to Crunchyroll. So for anyone wanting more info on Jujutsu Kaisen, you can read the story's official synopsis below:

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Episode 3 Recap With Spoilers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/monarch-legacy-of-monsters-episode-3-recap-spoilers/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 16:01:00 +0000 Evan Valentine c49f0ffe-98e1-4922-9d15-5dc663396a31

Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters has brought back the king of the monsters, Godzilla, while also introducing quite a few new giant beasts to help populate Legendary's MonsterVerse. In the present, Cate, Kentaro and May have learned more about Lee Shaw and the mysterious dealings of Monarch, aiming to discover more about Hiroshi's secret life. In the past, Lee, Keiko, and Billy have their own encounter with a familiar face. In the third episode, kaiju, old and new, make an appearance and rattle the Earth as a result.

Warning. If you have yet to be watch the latest episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, we'll be diving into serious spoiler territory.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Episode 3: The Present

We pick up immediately where episode two left off, as Lee leads the trio of Kentaro, Cate, and May toward the "retirement home's" exit after ditching his anklet. Before the quartet can escape without being seen, the alarms blare as Lee Shaw has to learn how to drive a van that uses a button rather than a key to start its ignition. Gunning it to the exit, Lee pulls off some evasive maneuvers to slam through the main entrance gate to escape from the Monarch enclosure.

Lee, Kentaro, May, and Cate reminisce about Hiroshi's past, attempting to decipher his notes as they take a trip to South Korea. Cate isn't thrilled to hear that her father and Lee knew about the giant beasts like Godzilla that had rampaged across the world, blaming them for not revealing them to the public before they marched down paths of destruction. As the four ride the ship, May makes a mysterious call to a person unknown before hurling her phone over the side into the ocean as Kentaro arrives. May isn't a big fan of Kentaro at the moment, losing her business and livelihood in order to protect him.

Lee thinks its for the best to hurl Hiroshi's files over the side of the boat, though Kentaro refuses. After having a meeting of the minds, Shaw offers to no longer be the "leader" of the group once they reach South Korea, stating that Kentaro and Cate can take the lead. Realizing that losing the documents is for the best, as May has a copy on her computers and they could be tracked, Kentaro throws them into the ocean, losing a connection with his father in the process.

A New Kaiju Appears

The quartet arrives in Pohang, South Korea, running into a bit of bad luck as they find themselves having to have their passports checked by someone who isn't their contact. Lee attempts to bribe his way out of the situation before revealing that one of the guards who took them out of line was in fact Shaw's contact. We pan back to the Monarch agents who had previously hassled Cate and Kentaro, Tim and his mysterious friend, meeting a higher-up in the mysterious organization. The Monarch agents come to learn that not only is Lee Shaw and company in South Korea, immediately setting out to find them. Luckily for Shaw and his friends, an old warbird is waiting that will take them to Alaska for the next leg of their journey.

Aboard the plane, Lee tells Kentaro and Cate more about their father as May is able to discover the location of Hiroshi's destination, a locale near Barrow, Alaska. As Cate makes small talk with the pilot, their plane's navigation system goes haywire as Lee takes the controls and makes some drastic maneuvers to make sure the plane doesn't crash. Luckily, Lee pulls off a miracle and they're able to land, discovering pieces of what was Hiroshi's plane. Discovering a frozen body in the plane, Kentaro is relieved to discover it is not their father, stumbling upon a tent that has been erected near the crash site. They discover notes in the camp that were written by Hiroshi, leading Cate and Kentaro to believe that their father survived.

Despite the good news that Hiroshi might be alive, the pilot is horrified to discover that the crashed plane has some claw marks on its side, meaning that a kaiju was responsible for bringing it down. Looking to leave as quickly as possible, the pilot begins to operate the aircraft, only to be attacked by a kaiju that can only be described as a mix between an armadillo and an octopus. Using a freeze breath to stop the plane, and kill the pilot inside, Lee, Kentaro, Keiko, and May look on as their role in the latest episode ends.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Episode 3: The Past

In the past, where Lee, Billy, and Keiko are on an airfield, as Shaw calls in a number of military personnel to the Monarch location. Keiko and Billy are quite skeptical when it comes to the inclusion of these military men, but Shaw assures them that they are exactly the people that they need to get what they need in this "brave new world". It is then revealed that this current scene is taking place in 1954, two years after the Philippines and the trio's meeting with a particularly nasty flying kaiju. The three show the military men an impression/footprint left by a giant beast, stating that they might be able to find the kaiju who left the mark by using a wild amount of uranium. While the military is hesitant at first, the danger presented by a beast as big as the footprint implies changes their minds.

Lee, Keiko, and Billy arrive at Bikini Atoll, hoping to get their plan into fruition but discovering that the military is setting up quite a few defenses in an attempt to take down whatever beast they might summon with the uranium. Lee attempts to stop his higher-ups from moving forward by dropping a nuclear bomb on the kaiju, being shot down in rapid succession thanks to the kaiju's status as an existential threat.

Godzilla Gets Nuked

On the beach in Bikini Atoll, the material waits as Shaw, Keiko, and Billy struggle with the fact that they'll lose military backing if a kaiju doesn't appear, but the beast will most likely be nuked if it does. Hearing a roar in the distance, Godzilla is spotted under the waters, as the trio are awe-struck at the arrival of the armored beast. Drawn to the uranium, the military begins the countdown to detonate the nuclear weapon as Keiko tries to futilely stop the explosion. Unable to stop the explosion, Keiko weeps for the kaiju that has seemingly been destroyed, but Godzilla fans know better.

Keiko now holds a grudge against Lee, who had stopped her from stopping the nuclear detonation. Thanks to the reveal of Godzilla, the military is more than willing to not only give Monarch what they had originally asked for, but that Lee, Billy, and Keiko would receive a "blank check" for their future projects. Unfortunately, the unlimited funding means that the trio can't reveal the existence of the Titans to the world. With the funding that they need, Monarch has been officially born.

Dragon Ball Super: When Will the Manga's Next Arc Begin? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-super-manga-new-arc-start-date/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 03:54:00 +0000 Nick Valdez c3058502-73ae-48c8-9469-85b71da23c0f

Dragon Ball Super has reached the final moments of the fight against Cell Max with the manga's take on Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, so it's time to get ready for the next major arc of the manga! Dragon Ball Super kicked off the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc earlier this year with a special prequel leading into the events of the movie before revealing the manga's take on the movie itself. Now that the movie's events are almost over, there are some questions about where the manga will go from this point on with its next chapters.

Dragon Ball Super hasn't really teased what could be next for the manga following the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and that's what makes it very interesting as it will be a brand new future for the series overall. But there's also a chance that the manga could even call it quits with the next chapter as well as it gears up for the milestone 100th chapter of the series. This could be the end, or could be the start of a whole new kind of beginning for the series.

dragon-ball-super-manga-new-arc-start-date.jpg
(Photo: Shueisha)

What's Next for Dragon Ball Super Manga?

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 99 ends with Gohan (who has finally unleashed his Gohan Beast form) dealing the final Special Beam Cannon blow to Cell Max, and that means the next chapter of the series will be the final for the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc. Which means that the next arc of the manga will not begin until 2024 at the earliest as there could either be a final epilogue chapter to close out the arc following the end of the Cell Max fight, or even a tease for what could come next.

Worst case scenario is that Dragon Ball Super ends its manga run with the next chapter of the series, but hopefully that's not the case. With Black Frieza being revealed as the strongest warrior in the universe following the end of the Granolah arc, and with the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc kicking off right after that, it's been left unresolved. That would be a perfect place for the next arc of the series to kick off with its next major arc.

What are you hoping to see from Dragon Ball Super's next arc? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

On Tuesday, Macy's revealed the first look at the official Monkey D. Luffy balloon, which you can check out below.

"We're thrilled to have the celebrated anime franchise One Piece join the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with our Monkey D. Luffy giant character balloon," said Masayuki Endo, President and CEO of Toei Animation Inc. How Big Is the Luffy Macy's Parade Balloon?

Measuring a massive 43-feet long, 39-feet wide and 50-feet tall, Monkey D. Luffy will be impossible to miss during his inaugural flight from Central Park West to Herald Square, home to Macy's famed flagship store. He will be led the entire way by his own pirate crew of skilled marchers -- all honorary Straw Hats for the day -- to the cheers of the millions of spectators lining the Parade route and the millions more watching from home.

"Our balloon lineup includes some of the most iconic characters from around the world and spans all genres of entertainment, including anime, which continues to captivate our audience. We're excited to welcome such a beloved fan-favorite to the Parade this year," said Jordan Dabby, producer of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. "For decades, Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have delighted fans of all ages, and we couldn't be more thrilled to see him sail the skies of New York City this Thanksgiving."

Is One Piece Renewed For Season 2?

Earlier this year, One Piece branched out into a whole new medium, with a live-action series debuting to great acclaim on Netflix. Soon after, Netflix confirmed that One Piece has been renewed for a sophomore season, which will make its debut at a later date.

In One Piece, as a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world...

Jujutsu Kaisen Cosplay Gets Bloody With Choso https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-choso-anime-cosplay/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 01:41:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 263614af-fdb7-47a0-ab2b-11b853d93084

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 introduced Choso's bloody abilities to the anime series, and one awesome cosplay is helping to show off why the Death Painting Womb is such a deadly fighter! Jujutsu Kaisen's first season introduced the Death Painting Wombs with its final arc, but it wasn't until Season 2 that we saw just how powerful each of them could be. Aiming straight for Yuji Itadori after killing his brothers in the first season, Choso kicked off a bloody fight against Yuji in Season 2 of the series in one of the fiercest bouts of the Shibuya Incident arc overall.

Jujutsu Kaisen even ended this fight with Yuji's definitive loss, and he would have been killed at Choso's hands if not for a wild moment in which Choso had imagined Yuji as one of his brothers with memories that never quite happened. But this is far from the last we'll see from Choso as Jujutsu Kaisen's anime continues, and it's clear he made an impact with his full debut in the anime thanks to artists such as ekv___ on Instagram bringing the Death Painting Womb to life through cosplay. "Starting on October 31st, a curtain is suddenly lowered around the Shibuya station, which is busy on Halloween. A large number of civilians are trapped... and the civilians begin asking for Satoru Gojo. In order to minimize damage, higher-ups choose to handle Shibuya by having Gojo work there alone. Geto, Mahito, and other curses set traps and wait while Gojo arrives. Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Nanami, and many others wait outside the curtain. An unprecedented battle of curses begins soon after as sorcerers and curses converge in Shibuya."

Naruto Hands Boruto an Important Uzumaki Jutsu https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-boruto-flying-raijin-jutsu-two-blue-vortex/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 01:01:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 77a740fc-06e5-437b-888c-906133ed8def

Naruto is currently working its way through the first major arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and the newest chapter of the sequel manga series has handed down a very important Uzumaki Family jutsu to Boruto Uzumaki! Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has spent its first few chapters establishing how the Hidden Leaf Village has changed since Boruto was forced to leave it three years ago, and has already kicked off the first massive fights against Kawaki and Code. But while they were initially set up as the seeming antagonists for the new sequel, there have been some big new twists introduced already.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's newest chapter picks up from the fight between Boruto and Code, and immediately has introduced a massive new threat. But as Boruto continues to display the new abilities he's picked up during the time skip, the newest chapter of the series has also revealed he's learned a jutsu that his grandfather, Minato Namikaze, once used, the Flying Raijin Jutsu. Making Boruto more skilled than he ever was in the original series before training for the past three years.

What Is Boruto's New Jutsu?

The previous chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex revealed some of the new abilities that Boruto had picked up while training in exile. This included a new Rasengan that has the power to be activated over a long duration, the use of toads, and now it's been revealed that he has the ability to use the Flying Raijin Jutsu to quickly teleport across long distances. Which he uses in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 to quickly catch up to where Code is hiding out with the Ten Tails in tow.

After teasing that Kashin Koji was somehow involved in the mix with a toad that had been helping Boruto in the previous chapters, it's confirmed in Chapter 4 that this is the case. It seems that Boruto has been learning how to use these jutsu thanks to Koji's ties to Jiraiya, and it's helped Boruto unlock some of the techniques that he likely would have learned from Naruto someday. But as he also reveals in the newest chapter, he's not really adept at using Flying Raijin Jutsu just yet.

Rick and Morty Exec Reveals the Episode Where the New Voice Actors Locked In https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-spaghetti-episode-justin-roiland-replacements/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 5818fb8b-9644-48e8-960a-833349b8c15b

Rick and Morty Season 7 has made some shake ups both behind the scenes and in the episodes themselves, and the showrunner behind it all opened up about when the new voice actors really locked into their new roles! Ahead of Rick and Morty Season 7's premiere, Adult Swim announced it was cutting ties with co-creator and former voice star behind the titular characters, Justin Roiland. Following a lengthy and secretive casting process, it was then revealed that Ian Cardoni would be the new voice behind Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden would be the new voice behind Morty Smith for Season 7 and beyond.

Rick and Morty's new voice actors were essentially thrown into the deep end of things as they had to join a series that was already seven seasons in, and a season that was essentially already set before the recast. So the two of them have had to learn on the fly, and Rick and Morty showrunner Scott Marder revealed that not only have Cardoni and Belden improved with each episode, it was the spaghetti episode in particular that Marder and the team were definitely sure that they found the right replacements.

When Rick and Morty's New Actors Locked In

Speaking to The Wrap about Rick and Morty Season 7, Marder explained that the structure of the season was unintentional but was ultimately a "big proof of concept as to how they sounded together." Revealing that he felt like Cardoni and Belden had been growing stronger in their respective performances with each new episodes, it was Episode 4, "That's Amorte" where they felt locked in, "That was the one where we were like, 'We got them. We got our guys, Rick and Morty," Marder stated.

"We've put in our 10,000 hours now," Marder continued as he explained that Cardoni and Belden are now set for Rick and Morty's expansive future. "And those guys, they can feel when they're in the pocket. So now it feels like bringing anyone in to do in any role. It's been enjoyable. We're really set up for the future now with the with these guys." And when opening up about the response to the new performances, Marder stated "I expected a lot more negativity just because I feel like the people that speak out on the internet are largely more negative than positive. But it felt like a real tidal wave of positivity that caught me off guard. It felt like winning an award," Marder continued. "I'm just glad that people feel like we can keep moving forward."

Blue Eye Samurai Has Made Hideo Kojima a Believer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-eye-samurai-hideo-kojima-review/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 23:37:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 60976a77-bdfc-4672-8c3d-aa427be9ed14

Netflix has had quite a few headlines when it comes to the anime world in 2023. The live-action adaptation of One Piece is a hit and Castlevania returned to introduce a new Belmont in Nocturne. While it might not get the lion's share of attention Blue Eye Samurai has been garnering some fantastic reviews. With all eight episodes of the first season now available to stream, the creator responsible for Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima, has offered glowing reviews of the anime focused on revenge.

After watching the first two episodes of Blue Eye Samurai, Kojima took the opportunity to praise the animated series that follows a sword-wielding samurai out for revenge, "I watched two episodes of the anime drama "BLUE EYE SAMURAI" which has been on my mind for a long time! This is fantastic! Killing, scenery, action, violence, eroticism! All the elements, colors, movements, and breaths beautifully depict the "Japanese appearance"! This adds to the enjoyment. A revenge drama by a blue-eyed samurai in a time of national isolation. Thematically interesting."

Hideo Kojima Reviews Blue Eye Samurai Twice

Hideo was so infatuated with the latest Netflix series, that he shared another review after knocking out five episodes, stating that the show should be considered "beyond anime", "I watched 5 episodes of BLUE EYE SAMURAI! This is awesome! Using puppet theater, Mizu's past is cut back to the present! The reason why Mizu became a vengeance demon is revealed. You can't watch it without tears. The direction, the movements, the pictures and the story are amazing. This is now beyond anime! Only three more episodes to go. I can't watch the rest of the story because it's too good."

The official description of Blue Eye Samurai reads as such if you want a more in-depth look at the upcoming Netflix series, "Our story is a larger-than-life action-adventure that takes place 400 years ago, yet Blue Eye Samurai's themes are of the moment and the inspiration is deeply personal. We are grateful for Netflix's passion for this story and for their bold vision for sophisticated animated drama."

One Piece is officially set to bring the Wano Country arc to an end and kick off the next major arc of the anime, and fans have gotten the first look at what's coming next with the promo for Episode 1085! One Piece's Wano Country arc has been running in the anime for four years and things have changed big time for Luffy and the Straw Hats thanks to everything that's happened over the course of the fights with Kaido. But now it's time to get an update on how the rest of the seas have changed since Luffy and the others had been isolated on Wano.

With the One Piece anime's take on the Future Island arc starting off its run in December, and Luffy and the others saying their final goodbyes with the most recent episode, it's time for the Straw Hats to officially leave Wano's shores. There's still one big goodbye left to be had, however, as Momonosuke and K'inemon found out that Luffy was trying to leave before saying, and fans have gotten the first look at how that's going to go with the promo for One Piece Episode 1085. Check it out below:

How to Watch One Piece Episode 1085

One Piece Episode 1085 is titled "The Last Curtain! Luffy and Momonosuke's Vow" and the promo for the episode teases it as such, "After running wild like a strong wind and a raging wave, and granting the Land of Wano its wish, Luffy departs the capital silently. Momonosuke can't contain his anger at the irreverent behavior that tramples on their long-standing bond. As the time to depart looms, what is going through Luffy's mind?" One Piece Episode 1085 will be premiering in Japan on Sunday, November 26th (Saturday, November 25th internationally), and will be available for streaming with Crunchyroll following its debut overseas.

If you wanted to catch up with the One Piece anime before Wano arc fully ends, you can stream the entire series (along with an available English dub, specials, and movies) with Crunchyroll. They tease the One Piece anime as such, "Monkey D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this is one captain who'll never give up until he's claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!"

Naruto Welcomes Four New Villains to Boruto: Two Blue Vortex https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-boruto-two-blue-vortex-spoilers-new-villains/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 23:02:00 +0000 Evan Valentine f4197b68-57b8-4f39-bed1-ff189f2c2feb

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex acts as the "Shippuden" to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, giving us older iterations of both hero and villain alike. Thanks to the world being changed by Eida's power, Boruto Uzumaki has become "public enemy number one" when it comes to the Hidden Leaf Village. With the board already seeing the likes of Code and Kawaki gunning for Boruto, it would seem that four new players have entered the field who have some major ties to the Otsutsuki and some familiar faces from the ninja world.

Warning. If you haven't read the latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, be forewarned that we'll be diving into spoiler territory. Luckily, despite the odds that are against him, Boruto has been spending his time wisely outside of the limelight and avoiding Konoha's advances. During the time skip, the son of the Seventh has been increasing his energy and learning new techniques, such as a Rasengan that came quite close to killing Code. While there were quite a few threats to Boruto in the midst, four new threats have emerged who were all brought to life by the "Divine Tree" and might look more than a little familiar.

imageedit-8-4245888010.png
(Photo: Shueisha)

What is The Divine Tree?

The Divine Tree was a tool used by the Otsutsuki to create a fruit that would grant them immortality. Using the Ten-Tailed Beast to grow one of these trees, the space ninjas have been attempting to suck all the chakra out of the ninja world for quite some time. However, the Divine Tree has seemingly become sentient and has created four new beings using familiar faces from the ninja world.

In the latest chapter of the shonen series, Code's former henchman, Bug, is revealed to be the first person that has been taken over by the Divine Tree, but he is not the last. Three other powerful beings emerge that have been recreated by the tree, one of which is none other than Sasuke Uchiha. While the identities of the other pair remain a mystery, this new wildcard is sure to cause both Konoha and Code some serious headaches in the future.

What do you think of the new villains on the block in the ninja world? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of the Hidden Leaf.

Who Is Rick and Morty's Next Big Villain? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-morty-who-is-next-big-bad-villain-after-rick-prime-dead-season-7/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 23:01:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 28c43508-93d7-47bc-b1f8-97bf14fc8ed3

Rick and Morty Season 7 has left longtime fans of the show (and Rick Sanchez himself) all wondering: what now?

(SPOILERS) In Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 5 "Unmortricken" we got the long-awaited - and yet somehow totally unexpected - final showdown between series protagonist Rick C-137 and his nemesis Rick Prime. The entire premise of Rick and Morty's core canon storyline (however much it mattered) was that Rick Prime had killed C-137's wife Diane and daughter Beth, starting a multiversal manhunt and feud that ultimately led Rick C-137 to take Rick Prime's place in the villain's native universe, waiting for him to return one day. Instead, it was the "Evil Morty" who finally helped Rick C-137 achieve his mission, trapping and killing Rick Prime.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 6 made it clear that the series isn't treating Rick's brutal victory over Rick Prime as a glorious victory without weight or consequence; Rick has a whole new existential crisis to face, now that his reason and purpose for living are gone. We expect that Rick will have an oddesy of sorts, trying to find new ways to define his life - or denying that the mental/emotional issue exists at all. Ultimately though, there will probably be only one thing that truly gets Rick C-137 back on his game: a new archnemesis to chase.

Who Is Rick and Morty's Next Big Villain?

rick-and-morty-season-7-vs-evil-morty-villain.jpg
(Photo: Adult Swim)

Evil Morty - The obvious bet for the next series "Big Bad" is, of course, Evil Morty. For a long time Rick and Morty had viewers believing that Evil Morty was the big bad of the show; he was the only one to outwit Rick - as seen in the Season 1 episode "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind" - and by the time he got an entire bottle episode dedicated to his rise of power in the Citadel of Ricks (S3E7), it seemed pretty clear that Evil Morty was the bad guy that the show wanted us to be wary of.

Ever since Evil Morty achieved his goal and broke free of the Finite Curve of the multiverse Rick created for himself, it seemed like only a matter of time before he returned to wreak havoc. That's why one of the biggest surprises of "Unmortricken" was seeing Evil Morty actually team up with Rick and Morty against Rick Prime. But while we saw that Evil Morty can work with Rick and Morty, he also used the encounter to learn about the most dangerous piece of tech in the multiverse: Rick Prime's Omega Device. Now Evil Morty arguably has the means to erase anyone from existence: we should all definitely wonder what he aims to do with that power.

(Photo: Adult Swim)

Mr. Nimbus - We know that Mr. Nimbus (the Namor/Aquaman parody Rick has a longstanding feud with) isn't really the Big Bad type, but in the context of the Season 7 storyline, he's an easy distraction for Rick's existential dread. Rick could very well pick a new fight with Nimbus just to cement that "nemesis" relationship he may need so badly right now. Nimbus does admittedly have power over the ocean (and the police), so he can at least be a worldly threat worthy of Rick's (and the President's) attention. Plus, there's an Aquaman movie coming out this year... so that would be fun timing.

(Photo: Adult Swim)

Another Rick - "Unmortricken" came out of nowhere and put an end to Rick Prime faster than anyone could've guessed.

Or did it?

Rick and Morty has always loved pulling off big twists other series couldn't dream of doing - like an episode about the characters "Cronenberging" the entire Earth into a mutant hell, and then moving to a parallel universe to side-step any consequences. We're due for a major fakeout where Rick Prime isn't really dead (another Evil Morty scheme?), or a reveal that there's another unseen Big Bad really pulling the strings - some version of Rick and/or Morty we have yet to meet.

As fans in other territories wait for their chance to see the new movie in action, fans in Japan have been flocking to theaters to see it for themselves.

Godzilla Minus One ended the previous weekend still at the top of the box office in Japan, and it marks the third straight week it has been at the number one spot since its debut. Godzilla Minus One U.S. Release Date

Godzilla Minus One is now in theaters in Japan and still taking over the box office. Luckily it will be releasing across the United States and Canada beginning on December 1st. Toho teases what to expect from Godzilla Minus One as such, "After the war, Japan's economic state has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state." Koiju Ueda, President of Toho International further teased the movie as such, "Set in a post-war Japan, Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force...The concept is that Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the 'minus.'"

Rick and Morty: Why Its New Actors Call Season 7 the Show's Best Yet https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-new-voice-actors-season-7-best-yet/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 22:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 2a05bdc1-29db-4973-aa3c-b5774fb3fecc

Rick and Morty Season 7 introduced new voice actors behind its titular characters following co-creator Justin Roiland's exit, and the new stars are calling Season 7 one of the show's best seasons yet! Rick and Morty Season 7 has made some big shake ups that fans weren't expecting as it not only solved one of the massive antagonist plot threads hanging over the series with its fifth episode, but it opened up the rest of the season to a clear path towards a new kind of story. It's this openness that has fans thinking about what could be next.

Rick and Morty Season 7 introduced Ian Cardoni as the new voice of Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden as the new voice of Morty Smith, and the two new star finally opened up about joining the series in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. It was here that the two of them not only opened up about how they feel about joining the series and adjusting to their new roles, but also teased what's coming next in the final episodes of Season 7 with the clean slate set by Episode 5 and 6.

What's Next for Rick and Morty Season 7?

"I think the latest episode leaves a lot of questions as to where these characters could go," Ian Cardoni responded when asked about where they felt the series could go following Rick Prime's death in Episode 5. "The only thing I'd say is there are some pretty exciting places where the story will be taking us. There are some excellent adventures that I think the fans will really enjoy, and new twists and turns." Belden shared this sentiment and even noted Season 7 of the series as the best yet.

"Season seven is the best Rick and Morty has ever been -- the writing is top-tier," Belden stated. "We have felt so welcomed by the production people working on the show, but also by the fans, and the online community have been so welcoming and supportive. We'd just like to say, 'Thank you.'" The new actors just jumped into the series ahead of Season 7, so it's going to be bright future for them as well as fans get to see more of them in future seasons.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Reveals Wonder of U, Toru Voice Actor https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jojos-bizarre-adventure-reveals-wonder-of-u-toru-voice-actor/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 22:27:00 +0000 Megan Peters c12b092a-64d3-4a78-8c63-ff61a72100b0

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is keeping busy these days. Not long ago, it was there Hirohiko Araki began work on The JoJoLands, and the anime is growing bigger by the day. With Stone Ocean finished, all eyes are on the future as JoJo has yet to adapt a number of its best characters. Some have been able to get the jump thanks to all the JoJo games out there, and now Wonder of U has been gifted such a fast pass.

The update comes courtesy of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle R. The game, which debuted just over a year ago, is in the midst of bringing DLC to fans. Not long ago, it was shared Wonder of U would be joining the roster with Toru, and we've been given our first look at the characters animated.

As you can see above, the promo brings Wonder of U to life in glorious color, and he looks downright slick in his detective gear. The same can be said for Toru as wewll. Rocking a purple afro, Toru looks like he was just ripped from Jojolion, and that has left fans buzzing online.

For those curious about the characters' voices, JoJo brought in legends to oversee the pair. Takayuki Sugo has been hired to voice Hashirama Senju from Naruto. Most recently, we've heard the character in Bleach as Yhwach as well as Zangetsu. And for fans back in the day, Wonder of U will share the same voice as Raizen of Yu Yu Hakusho.

As for Toru, the character will be voiced by Nobunga Shimazaki. He is known best for voices Baki Hanma as well as Yuno from Black Clover. The voice actor has also starred in One Piece and Parasyte. Now, Shimazaki can add JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to their resume. And perhaps one day, these actors will show up on the small screen when Jojolion gets adapted into an anime.

What do you think about this first look at Wonder of U? Will you be checking out this JoJo's Bizarre Adventure game? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Family Guy to Leave Sunday Nights on FOX https://comicbook.com/anime/news/family-guy-fox-schedule-changes/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 21:40:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 18a65e77-0c23-4f21-b3f5-dc5278674ec6

Family Guy will be leaving Sunday nights on FOX for the first time in over two decades since it returned to the network! Family Guy infamously was canceled by FOX a few seasons into its original run, and was then brought back for new seasons following its success on Adult Swim and home media. Ever since, FOX has kept Family Guy as part of their Sunday evening line up alongside other long running animated sitcoms such as The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers. Now it's going to be moved to a new night in order to make room for other shows.

FOX has announced their midseason schedule coming in 2024, and have revealed that Family Guy will then be moving its new episodes to Wednesday evenings beginning on March 6th at a new time of 9:30PM EST. This will pair the long running animated sitcom with broadcasts of The Masked Singer and Animal Control, and will mark the first time the series has been aired on a weekday since before its cancellation way back in 2001. But in its place there will be newer shows.

Family Guy Moves to a New Night on FOX

According to FOX's midseason schedule, the new line up for FOX's Animation Domination block will be then filled by new additions on Sunday, January 7th such as the Jon Hamm led Grimsburg at 8:00PM EST and the returning The Great North (which is returning for Season 4) at 9:30PM. The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers will be remaining on the block itself, and it seems like FOX is really investing in the new series Grimsburg if it's going to bump a long running project like Family Guy to a new night in its stead (as The Great North has been a part of the block with its first three seasons).

Family Guy Season 22 will continue its broadcast on Sunday evenings on FOX through the remainder of the year before coming back with new episodes next year at its new time. If you wanted to catch up with all of the currently available episodes of Family Guy, you can find it now streaming with Hulu. They tease Family Guy as such, "The adventures of an endearingly ignorant dad and his hilariously odd family of middle-class New Englanders."

Dragon Ball Daima Staff Announced https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-daima-staff-anime/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 21:14:00 +0000 Megan Peters 15d61724-02c0-4d22-b72c-13953a1c9166

Oh, it's happening. It was not long ago the anime fandom learned Son Goku has a new anime in the works. Toei Animation is working on Dragon Ball Daima these days, and of course, fans want to know all about the project. Now, a new report has revealed the show's staff is seriously stacked, and we're breaking down the official details.

The update comes from the most recent issue of V-Jump. It was there Shueisha announced the executive staff behind Dragon Ball Daima. Of course, fans were eager to learn who'd be directing the series, and there are two creators up to bat.

According to the report, Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki are slated to direct Dragon Ball Daima. The pair will be joined by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru who will do character designs. And when it comes to the anime's scripts, writer Yuuko Kakihara has been brought on board. As for the show's animation team, well - this latest report is staying mum on the topic.

If you are not familiar with the names listed in this latest staff teaser, don't sweat it. Fans will known Yoshitaka's work as the animator worked on dozens of Dragon Ball Super episodes. As for Komaki, the artist is known well for their legacy on One Piece. She has directed a slew of episodes for the Toei Animation hit, and Komaki most recently worked on One Piece Film Red as an assistant director.

From top to bottom, this new report is filled with A-list talent, so Dragon Ball Daima appears to be in good hands. Now, fans will just have to wait to see it for themselves. Toei Animation confirmed the new Dragon Ball anime will launch in 2024, and it will follow a de-aged Goku as he travels to undo a wild wish that turns his world upside down.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 100 Teases a Special Gift https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-super-chapter-100-manga/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 21:12:00 +0000 Megan Peters db98367a-b2ab-43b0-939a-01c32c622cc8

It seems Dragon Ball Super is about to hit a big milestone. While it has been years since the series closed its hit anime, Dragon Ball is far from over in print. The story is still moving forward courtesy of Akira Toriyama's manga with Toyotarou. And after eight years, Dragon Ball Super is preparing to release chapter 100 with a big gift in tow.

Not long ago, Dragon Ball Super went live with chapter 99 this month, and it helps bring the Super Hero arc to a close. The long-awaited update put Beast Gohan to the page, and now all eyes are on what's next for the series. After all, Dragon Ball Super chapter 100 is coming, and V-Jump has confirmed it will drop with a color page.

We can expect this upcoming chapter of Dragon Ball Super to bring the Super Hero arc to a close, so fans are already eager about what's next. At this point, Toriyama has not announced what the next arc of Dragon Ball Super will entail, but we have already been given a slew of original hits. From Moro to Black Frieza, the series has taken some risks as of late. Dragon Ball's next chapter should go live just ahead of the winter holidays, so it seems like we will find out about this next arc at Jump Festa.

After all, Jump Festa is on the horizon, and Dragon Ball is slated to appear at the event. The manga has announced new arcs at the event previously, and there is no better place to preface Dragon Ball Super's future than at the event. After all, the convention is all about Shueisha, so Son Goku would fit in with the crowd perfectly.

If you are not familiar with Dragon Ball Super, you can always brush up on the manga. The series can be read on the Shonen Jump app right now. So for more information on the series, you can read the official synopsis of Dragon Ball below:

"Legend has it that if all seven of the precious orbs called "Dragon Balls" are gathered together, an incredibly powerful dragon god will appear to grant one wish. Unfortunately, the orbs are scattered across the world, making them extremely difficult to collect. Enter 16-year-old Bulma, a scientific genius who has constructed a radar to detect the exact locations of the Dragon Balls. She's on a mission to find all seven orbs, but first she must convince young Son Goku to join her on her quest. With a monkey tail, superhuman strength and a magic staff for a weapon, Son Goku is ready to set out on the adventure of a lifetime..."

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Staff Debunks Rumor About Episode 17 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-episode-17-debunk/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 20:22:00 +0000 Megan Peters 998a9435-567c-4906-8cf1-728f55a75030

Jujutsu Kaisen season two went live this summer, and its reputation this fall has had highs and lows. From its impressive animation to its alleged work conditions, Jujutsu Kaisen has sparked tons of discussion with season two. These days, all eyes are on the anime's staff as a number of employees have shared upsetting details about the production schedule behind the Shibuya Incident arc. And now, one animator is debunking debunking a rumor about Jujutsu Kaiden's latest episode.

The update comes courtesy of animation director and corrector NobiliRoccia. Over on social media, the staffer prefaced season two episode 17 with a note that left fans buzzing. "JJK S2 episode 17 was only 30% complete as animators struggled to meet deadlines," the animator shared.

However, the animator is now clarifying the deleted post. It turns out NobiliRoccia's message was misinterpreted as literal; Instead, it turns out the animator meant the overall vision for episode 17 was barely met due to the staff's deadlines.

"Just a heads up, my tweet was deleted because people were misinterpretating it. In hindsight,I shouldn' t have used a number," the animator shared. "People focused on dumb numbers instead of what actually mattered. I never correlated that number to a dumb "completition" check point, but to the vision."

Of course, this clarification has put Jujutsu Kaiser's most recent episode into question. There is no denying how impressive episode 17 was visually, and it is already being heralded as Episode of the Year material. However, the staff could have done even more with a better production schedule. It seems animators wanted to take the visuals up several notches, but their vision wasn't doable under deadline.

If you have not checked out Jujutsu Kaisen season two, no sweat! The show is available to binge on Crunchyroll right now. So for more information on Gege Akutami's hit series, you can read its official synopsis below:

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Cosplay Recreates The JOJOLands' Diamond Heist https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jojos-bizarre-adventure-cosplay-jojolands-diamond-heist/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 20:02:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 4cd0bacd-62e1-4936-b319-51bb9f0d6a2d

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's creator, Hirohiko Araki, is in love with the universe of the Joestars, stating numerous times in the past that he'd love nothing more than to continue creating the manga forever. Recently, the mangaka has been able to prove this fact by releasing a new arc titled "The JOJOLands". Introducing the new Joestars leading the charge in Jodio and Dragona, Araki isn't scared to bring back old characters as Kishibe Rohan has made a comeback. Now, a pair of cosplayers have recreated the big diamond heist that takes place in the recent manga arc.

Jodio and Dragona might be Joestars, but they aren't exactly the altruistic types that came before them. Characters like Jonathan, Jotaro, and Giorno were attempting to use their Stand powers to make the world a better place, but the two new siblings are working toward making sure that their coffers are full. While they are specifically working to make sure that their mother is taken care of, Jodio and Dragona haven't been shy about doing whatever it takes to make their family rich. When tasked with stealing a priceless diamond to net in some serious cash flow, the Joestar siblings find themselves taking on Kishibe Rohan, who is the owner of the diamond.

The JOJOLands' Diamond Heist

During their confrontation, Jodio and Dragona are able to get the diamond that they were looking for, but run into some serious problems from both Rohan and a mysterious feline with Stand powers. Luckily, Jodio, his crew, and Rohan are able to come to an agreement when it comes to the diamond, resulting in little to no bloodshed. Rohan's return was quite unexpected and it leaves the door open for other characters from the past to make a comeback.

The latest anime season brought Jolyne's story to a close in the Stone Ocean, but David Production has yet to announce the anime adaptation's return. Luckily, there is quite a bit to adapt in the future of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, as both Steel Ball Run and JoJolion have yet to hit the small screen. As the JOJOLands continues, the bizarre anime franchise is aiming to have a bright future.

What do you think of this colorful recreation? What other old characters do you think will return via the JOJOLands? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of the Joestars.
